Meet CNN's Newest Correspondent: Pec Flexman

I have a pretty steady routine when it comes to looking for things on the internet to yell at every other day on our webbed site internets log page. I have a few regular news sources that I scour for the most inane, ridiculous, mind rapingly dumb news stories of the day. Naturally I start right off the top with FoxNews.com. I usually have to look no further than our trusty friends at Fox to find something yell-at-able. Failing Fox’s usual failings, I then move on to Yahoo, or CNN, or any other random news outlet.

Well, today in my search for the newsworthiest piece of newsesque newsery, I was stopped by CNN.com.

The headlines were all pretty much the same things that I’d seen as I trolled the other sites, nothing too Earth shattering: “Joe Frasier Knocked Underground by Undisputed Champion, ‘Big C'”, “Unjailable Celbri-cunt Poses Un-nude for Jerk Mag” and “Lady Famous Only For Making Babies Shocks World With Announcement of ‘Nother Baby Bein’ Made”. But as I scrolled down the page looking for something worth while I came upon something that stopped me in my tracks. See if you can spot it in this actual, un-doctored screen grab from the CNN.com web site…

Gay penguins... that's adorably against God...
Gay penguins… that’s adorably against God…

Sure, the hotly contested debate on the continued efficacy of Daylight Saving Time was certainly something on which I had two or three cents to share (how much longer must we continue to live under the tyranny of Big Barbeque?!). Which Lennon’s tooth was sold for $31,200, the communist or the one not in the Beatles. Or even the beauty of dog on horse love. But what really confused and excited my confusible and exctiational parts was the third thumbnail from the right under the banner of “From our shows”. Now, it’s admittedly been a while since I’ve sat down with a bowl of freshly popped popping corn and enjoyed a good long night of CNNing, so it’s quite possible that in my stead Wolf Blitzer’s really been Blitzin’ the inclined bench, but it seems more likely that this was a fresh new face in the CNN afternoon lineup.

Now, sure, it does say underneath the photo that it is an “Advertisement” but really, that’s what all of those links are. They’re clips from specific shows promoting said program, i.e. “Advertisements”. And there’s no text accompanying the picture, no “Buy muscle oil, pussy” or “1-900-ASS-STUD is waiting”. Nothing, so the only thing I can think is that the web master at CNN.com simply failed to add the story blurb to the lower third of the show promo. I trust and respect CNN.com far too much to simply let this over looked promotional opportunity pass, so I am going to now attempt to correct this “mistakeportunity” and help CNN promote it’s new hit program “The Fact Press with Pec Flexman”

Friday The 13th Part IV : Osama Lives

Posted on Updated on

You thought that was scary? Wait til you see Part V

Ok everyone, it’s safe to come outside now. We can now all go back to our regularly scheduled lives. Didn’t you hear? The boogie man is dead. Yeah!! He was all shot up in the head yesterday and then thrown in the ocean. Dead! Done! So now we’re all completely safe once again. Doesn’t it feel good, kinda like a Snuggle Fabric Softener commercial?

We can emerge from our storm shelters shielding our eyes with our forearms from the strangely bright sun that we haven’t seen in 10 years and go back to flying on airplanes without sweaty palm syndrome. We’re now once again safe to let our kids play at parks, we’re safe to go to shopping malls , safe to celebrate birthdays, go on road trips, hell, we’re even safe to go camping now. Or are we?

It's as safe as a fresh, warm pile of snuggly laundry

Haven’t you ever seen Friday the 13th? Dude ain’t dead! He’ll sink to the bottom of the ocean, bump up against some high voltage cable, his fingers will start twitching and he’ll emerge on the banks of some summer-camp lake late at night, fashion a turban mask and hide out in an abandoned cabin and wait to avenge his death on unsuspecting teen partiers lookin’ for a place to play “hide the weasel”.

THE BAD GUY NEVER DIES! It’s a metaphor folks, that’s just how it works. So if you now think all is well in the world because the Prez-o, the media and all your friends at work say it is because the machete wielding, hockey masked legend of the lake is dead, then may I suggest you think again. You can stab him, you can put an axe in his head, empale him on a fence post, track him down in the middle of a goddamn desert behind eighteen foot high barbed-wire walls, two security

You can't stop me! You can only hope to CONTAIN me!

gates, shoot him in the head, drag his body out to sea and dump him to the depths where King Triton rules over all sea creatures. No matter what you do, the body lying on the ground is going to creepily sit straight up with some scary ass orchestra music and return to kill next summer at a theatre near you.

Obama's Birth Certificate Found In a Van Full of Candy

Here it is, now go back to being unemployed

Hey everyone, wow, we’re really sorry that this whole Obama/birth certificate thing got so way out of freakin’ control. We forgot that it was in the back of our van the whole time. Whoopsie right?? Silly us, we totally forgot that on one of our last roadtrips, Obama had it in his wallet and let us frame it. So we hung it inside the van so it would be “Officially Presidential”, like Air Force One, meaning we wouldn’t have to pay when crossing toll-bridges or when using parking garages. IT WAS AWESOME! And don’t forget that all the drive-thru food we could eat WAS FREE!! FREE G’DAMNIT!! So maybe when I say … forgot … maybe I meant … didn’t want to tell anyone. Well crap, would you? You know how much money I’ve saved over the last few months since this whole “prove you’re American” thing came out? Well I’d have to say it’s been WAY over $250. That’s a lot of Big Macs.

Here’s what I can’t quite wrap my little nugget around: When I had to renew my drivers license down at the good ol’ friendly DMV, I had to prove up and down with all kinds of documents and fingerprints and photos and fluids from places and a letter of recommendation from my 1st grade teacher and then had to recite the Cub Scout Promise while standing on a chair. Holy frakin’ shit! All of this just to renew a drivers license that I already had because I had previously aleady proved my citizenial worthiness? I can’t even IMAGINE how difficult it would be to become the Holy Ambassador to these United Lines on a Map. I mean seriously! I’m sure he had to show a birth certificate to get student loans at Harvard Law right? To get married, when his book was published, to be elected into the Senate, to say “hey I’m running for President”, and then finally to win the whole goddamn enchilada?!? So this whole time he was faking it? Well if that’s the case then holy llama shit! Slap my ass, paint me pink and call me Gertrude. Oh wait, that gives me an idea!

Van Full of Candy is officially announcing our candidacy for President of the United States in the 2012 U.S. presidential
election. And to keep things simple, we’re providing our birth certificate right now, right here for the nation to see, just so there isn’t any … confusion.

So stick THAT in your apple and smoke it

VFoC’s Presidents Day Fun Facts

Posted on Updated on

The public school system is failing. Ask any public school kid now a days to give you the names of every US President and they’d probably have a hard time coming up with even half of the 59 men who have served in this country’s highest office.

That is why we at Van Full of Candy take our role as keepers of the flame of history and smolderer of the embers of knowin’ stuff very seriously. And while you may know that Abraham Lincoln chopped down a rope bridge to escape cannibalistic tribesmen only to lose the artifacts he fought so hard to procure, or that George Washington would routinely refer to himself in the third person and was generally kind of a dick, there are so many interesting facts about those other ones too.

So it is with great pride and honor that we present to you on this day, Van Full of Candy’s President’s Day Fun Facts:

John Tyler, Jr. (March 29, 1790 – January 18, 1862) was the tenth President of the United States (1841–1845)

Before being elected the 10th President of the United States, John Tyler had many odd jobs, including, but not limited to, bee salesman, wooden indian, snake confuser, gypsy strangler, boat anchor, cart wheeler and wild dog tracker. Well into his second year in office President Tyler would, for a nickle, allow visiting dignitaries the opportunity to guess how many jellied sweets resided in the over sized jar that he kept on his desk.

James Knox Polk (1795-1849) was the 11th President of the United States (1845-1849)

President Polk isn’t one of the more famous Presidents, his face isn’t engraved on stone monuments, nor does it reside on any currency. He was, however, one of the hardest working Presidents in history, if not the hardest working, so much so, that he died three months after his Presidency ended. He was the “dark horse” candidate that surprised everyone by actually winning over Henry Clay of the rival Whig Party, which is surprising coincidence since Polk never wore a wig. No! He had gorgeous locks of long flowing hair, and he is actually the first President who declared an actual hairstyle, “The Mullet”. He was a barber’s nightmare, and a redneck’s hero. He loved his hair and was quite a vain individual. He was the first President to have an actual picture taken of himself. He took a self portrait of himself in a bathroom mirror. It was the beginning of the Facebook profile pic.

Rutherford Birchard Hayes (October 4, 1822 – January 17, 1893) was the 19th President of the United States

Ruthoford B. Hayes once famously wrestled the time traveling future ghost of Warren G. Harding in the Oval Office for thirth seven confusing minutes. Historians report that throughout the altercation the spector of Harding kept angrilly referring to President Hayes as “Taft” despite the President’s repeated assurances to the time displaced phantom that he neither was this Taft gentleman nor did he know of whom he was speaking.

Always called tails.
Always called tails.

Chester Allen Arthur (1829-1886) was the 21st President of the United States (1881-1885)

Known as Elegant Arthur for his expensive taste in clothes and home furnishings, Chester would like to prance around the streets of Vermont with a small dog in a fancy “shopping” bag. It is said that he once spent $17 for a pocket kerchief that was made entirely of the tears of Sitting Bull (in modern day currency values, the kerchief was worth $3,200). He was very smitten with the piano and writing poems. One of his poems was actually used verbatim for “The Whisper Song” by Ying Yang Twins. Not only was he a contributor to the music industry, but he was also the model for Quaker Oats oatmeal, and was the great great grandfather of Captain Kangaroo.

Isn't your grandpa.
Isn't your grandpa.

Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901) was the 23rd President of the United States (1889-1893)

Lovingly referred to as “Old Man Ben”, or “Who’s that?”, Benjamin Harrison was in all actuality the 23rd President. It was during a time when the United States decided not to have a President anymore, and good ol’ Ben was accidentally elected when his bar tab was mistakenly dropped into an old ballot box that was supposed to be thrown away at Obadiah’s Tavern. He had a very low key term since nothing happened in America those four years, but one odd bit of history was that he got his face on a stamp in 1902.

Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr. (born Leslie Lynch King, Jr.; July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was the 38th President of the United States

The Emancipation Proclimation was an executive order enacted by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, which in effect signaled the immediate end of slavery in the United Stated. Despite this though, it is a little known fact that Gerald Ford was the first US President to hold the office while not currently owning slaves. Ford sold his last fourteen slave only three months before Richard Nixon’s resignation. That streak of non-slave owning Presidents was of course broken in 2008 with the election of Barack Obama.
